Swamp Boy or Boy Scout!

Tim had a blast today.
His Scout group had an activity day on top of a mountain in our city.

Tig took him into town early this morning and they took the Funicular to the top. They then walked the 10 minutes to the meeting place. Apparently it was 2c on the top! Tig left him there and went into town to brew beer with his friends. (photos sent from Tig's phone:)

After 5 hours on the mountain Tim came home COVERED in mud and wearing the BIGGEST smile ever.

Seriously, some of the activities did sound fun. Lots of team building exercises, treasure hunt, pulling yourself up a steep hill on a rope which had 'special' knots, and best of all, taking your boots and socks off so you can race through a swamp in high heals!!

Trust me, the smell of the swamp and woods certainly followed him home.

As I write, the washing machine is going full blast filled with muddy clothes and the bath is filled with two giggling boys:)

Family Film Time

Winter weekends at our house often involve an afternoon on the sofa watching a movie and munching on popcorn.

Today, it was certainly one of those days.
I still can't walk, so am confined to the house and Stig had a headache.

The corn was popped, chocolate distributed and everyone got a glass of brus.

The film Brave was great, not an easy task to find a film that Tim, Tae and I would all enjoy:)

Yay, for lazy Saturdays!

Oops .... ouch

Last weekend, Tig and I attended the wedding of the gorgeous Tammy and Thomas.

The church service was beautiful and a perfect match of American (Tammy), and Norwegian (Thomas) traditions.

The evening party was fun, catching up and chatting to friends, eating lots of delicious cakes and listening and dancing to great music.

All went well until 12:45!!

Now, here is the public health warning:

Do not dance to Gangnam style in high heals!

I repeat.....

Do NOT dance to Gangnam style in high heals!

Especially if said heals have leather soles.

Oops!

So, at 1am after twisting my ankle badly (while doing a great version of hopping and lassoing I may add) I ended up at A&E.  The x-ray machines were not in comission during the night and since they could not rule out a break I had to go back the next day:(

So, here I am 3 days later. Ankle strapped and on complete rest. Under the bandage my ankle resembles the side of a tennis ball and it is starting to go a lovely shade of blue.

Happy it was not broken, but still badly sprained/torn.

I can't put any weight on it at all (unless you want to see a grown women cry), but the pain meds are helping. My new mode of transport is an attractive set of crutches with the gentle hop, bum shuffle or a knee crawl technique thrown in.

Before this, I had not really realised how often in the course of an evening I get up of the sofa to do things. You know the normal mum activities.... go to basement to put washing on, back an hour later to take out and hang up, pack the kids bags, fold clothes, put them away, tidy up toys, cook dinner, straighten the hallway, take Tae to the bathroom, all bedtime routines, make a cup of tea, grab a snack, go to the bathroom, +,+, etc, etc...

Seriously, given the pain and effort to just go to the bathroom, something has to be seriously needed before I can do it now. It also really makes me realise how much I took for granted before. Obvioulsy Tig and Tim are a great help and Tae is doing his bit too.

So all wishes for a quick recover welcome. Being stuck on the sofa is starting to drive me crazy and poor Tig is running around trying to do everything I do (including drop off and pick up at daycare)!

Hopefuly in a day or two I will be able to put some weight on my foot and be more mobile, until then I am building up muscles in places I did not know I had, especially whilst navigating the stairs to get to bed;)

Father's Day

Today we celebrated Father's Day!!

There may be some hero worship going on in our house regarding a certain Pappa.

To be fair, he does a pretty great job.

The expression 'hands on dad' has always been a strange one for me. Guess I've been lucky, in our house parenting is a 50 - 50 deal.

Beginning with night time wake ups, changing nappies (OK I did tend to do more of those - but only because I am a nice person), doctor or dentist appointments, homework, driving around, school conferences, shows or sport events. We take turns or do it together.

When it comes to taking the day off to be with a sick child, Tig might actually beat me on this one:o

(However, on a recent school planning day when he was home all day with both the boys, I think he was extra happy when I came home. My favourite comment was that Tae would not let him out of his sight and even followed him to the bathroom - welcome to my world:))

He loves his boys and his boys love and adore him!

So much joy, love and laughter.

Life does not get any better than being called mummy by my gorgeous boy!!!

Birthday Time

I usually make a big thing about birthdays in our house.
I think it is exciting to take the time and just focus on one family member and their special day.
This has obviously rubbed off on my boys!

Today is my birthday.
I may make a big thing about their birthdays, but I prefer a low key event for myself.....
that was until Tim took over this year:)

He did quite a bit of organising.  He always chooses his own presents for Tig and I. Often with quite... hmm.. interesting results. I still love the ladybird bowl (complete with little feet) that he chose for my birthday when he was 4 years old (the spatula was another classic).

Presents were wrapped and cakes (yes, plural) were baked.

This morning Tim set his alarm to go off before mine. I was awoken as he entered our room singing happy birthday with a muffin complete with a lit candle!

Tae has recently began to understand about birthdays. They are basically 3 things; presents, cake and a birthday crown (norwegian nursery tradition). So, we started the morning in a huge pile in my bed, with him insisting mummy needed a crown!  I also heard Tim in the kitchen saying "Tae if you want cake you HAVE to write the card for mummy first" lol.

This evening we had dinner, opened presents and ate cake . Tim obliged Tae and made me a crown!
I vote every mummy should get to wear a crown on their birthday.

I had a great day and recieved lots of lovely gifts; clothes, chocolates, jewlery and tickets to see Bon Jovi in concert next May :)))

Tim had picked out a Pandora bead. A little dog in a doghouse which had a heart on the back - one to treasure in the future;)

Double Trouble

A picture can say a thousand words.

Capturing dynamics of personalities and relationships.

Demonstrating true happiness and love.

Reminding me that I am very lucky!
